How to activate and use the card
The card is available physically or digitally in the official app. One thing to plan around: the validity period doesn't start when you buy it, but the moment you first use it, and it then runs continuously, including overnight. Time your museum visits so you make full use of every day on the card.
For GVB public transport, tap the card when boarding and again when getting off trams, buses, the metro and ferries. It's valid only on GVB services (blue logo), not on other operators. The journey from Schiphol Airport into the city isn't run by GVB, so it isn't covered by the card.
Museums, canal cruise and time slots
For most included venues you don't need a reservation, you simply walk in with the card. At busy museums such as the Rijksmuseum, a timed-entry slot is recommended and sometimes required. Book it online in advance, the reservation itself is free with the card. The canal cruise doesn't need pre-booking either: find a departure point run by a participating operator and join a suitable sailing.
What's not included
The best-known exception is the Van Gogh Museum, for which you'll need a separate timed-entry ticket, ideally booked a few days ahead. Not every venue in the city is part of the card, and where a museum is included, it's usually the permanent collection, while temporary exhibitions can cost extra. Check the current list of participating venues before your visit.

Which one is worth it depends on how many museums you can realistically fit in per day: two to three venues plus public transport and the canal cruise in a day usually pays off well.
