After booking you receive a voucher, not a ready-to-use ticket. You exchange it in person for the physical card at an Ask Me Lisboa desk - for example at Humberto Delgado Airport or in the city centre. The voucher stays valid for redemption for several months, so you don't have to activate it on your arrival day.
The card only starts running once you use it for the first time. You fill in the date and time, sign it and validate it on your first ride on the metro, bus, tram or train. From that moment, the chosen duration of 24, 48 or 72 hours runs continuously without interruption.
Included are the whole public transport network, many museums and monuments, plus the CP regional trains to Sintra (from Rossio or Oriente station) and to Cascais (from Cais do Sodré). The metro connection to and from the airport is covered too, so you can use the card straight from touchdown.
Not included are long-distance trains beyond these city lines, along with most restaurants, boat tours and Fado evenings, for which the card only gives discounts. Some attractions are discounted rather than free - check the exact terms in the card description.
Most museums open daily, but many close on Mondays and public holidays. Don't plan your Belém or city-centre sightseeing for a Monday.
The most popular monuments in Belém, above all Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower, have a daily visitor cap. Reserving a time slot in advance saves you the queue. Before your trip, check the booking calendar and the official websites, as individual sites can be temporarily closed for renovation.
There's an adult and a child version of the card; children below the minimum age generally already travel free on public transport anyway. Once the voucher has been redeemed or the card used for the first time, cancellation and refunds are no longer possible, so book the duration that matches your fixed dates.
