How the Artecard works
The Artecard is a digital pass you buy online or through the official app. It's one of the culture passes for the Campania region and covers over 40 museums and archaeological sites. The principle is simple: your first admissions are free (2 on the 3-day version, 5 on the 7-day version), and after that you pay the discounted rate at every other participating site. So plan your priciest destinations, such as Pompeii, first.
The card activates the first time you use it - either on your first admission to a site or, on the 3-day version, on your first ride. From that point, the validity period of your chosen version starts running. The booking window above offers the 3-day and 7-day versions for the whole of Campania, plus the annual 365 Gold and Lite passes. You'll find the version that suits your trip, and its price, there.
Public transport and getting there
Only the 3-day version includes public transport - with it, you travel on the UnicoCampania network: metro, funiculars, buses, plus the Circumvesuviana, Cumana and Circumflegrea regional railways. The Circumvesuviana towards Sorrento connects Pompeii and Herculaneum. On the 7-day and 365 versions, you buy transport tickets separately.
Booking slots and opening hours
The pass isn't a ticket for a fixed time - you simply take it to the ticket desk or entrance of each site. Some museums and archaeological sites do require advance booking with a time slot, though. Where that applies, book your slot directly on the site's own website and show your pass on arrival. Check this ahead of time, especially for the major sites.
Opening days vary by venue - many close on a fixed day each week, and last admission is well before closing time.
